Abstract

An educational trend of high global impact that is transforming the perception of education around the exact sciences has come to open the way in formal and non-formal learning environments. All those involved in enhancing 21st century skills in science and technology, we have the obligation to understand, explore and implement new forms of curricular integration in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

This article shares the implementation experience of the STEM-based curriculum of the primary elementary section of the Abraham Lincoln College in Bogotá, Colombia; through the methodology of Project-Based Learning (PBL) as a way to motivate students towards scientific and engineering issues that allow them to improve their attention processes in basic subjects, as well as adopt new ways of solving problems in a personal and cultural way and in the future to opt for a life project towards professional careers in STEM.

The implementation of this project in the school will also help students to change their conception about disciplines such as engineering, physics or mathematics having greater male participation, since it creates a gender barrier that distances a large number of female population in its development in science, thus causing a deficit in research professionals.
