Inspiring Quality Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

“Teachers will not be replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Teachers that use AI will replace teachers that don’t”. This is one of the quotes that underscored our motivation on the 11th of August 2023, when as teachers of information technology, we stood before a community of about 167 members of staff, to introduce them to AI tools. The hype around large language models (LLMs) was just building up and Gimnasio Vermont saw the need to train teachers on this new deal not only to assay fears but to also enhance teachers’ work and to ensure students’ competences continue to develop. This article summarises some of the actions that the school took to prepare itself for the use of artificial intelligence tools including the teachers’ training, information package for parents, curriculum upgrade through the IT department, and improved evaluation methods across all subjects.
